About Notelaea venosa

Notelaea venosa can look a little like Notelaea longifolia but can be distinguished by the following features:

- rounded/bluntly pointed axillary buds and terminal buds (most reliable ID feature)

- fine even reticulation on the leaves with often just the midvein and lateral veins raised on undersides

- typically has smoother brown branchlets with raised white lenticels, particularly on newish growth

- a hairless midvein that is often strong and yellow like a laurel (can also occur in N. longifolia, especially in the forest form)

- lateral veins typically loop well inside the margins

While not common in Sydney, Notelaea venosa is very common around the rainforest areas in southern Royal National Park.

A detailed description of the species can be found on Plantnet.

See location records on Atlas of Living Australia.
